NAWIC WA Presents: Master Building Association (MBA) Female Builder’s Scholarship 2023

NAWIC WA, in partnership with Master Builders WA is awarding a scholarship valued up to $12,000 to a female identifying person to obtain their building license and become a registered builder. 

Purpose: 
Master Builders will assist one deserving member of NAWIC in becoming a registered builder through one of two pathways: 

1. Experience,
2. Education & Experience 

Building Practitioner Registration

The link above is for the Building and Energy Services board which outlines the 5 different ‘Sets’ under which you can apply to become a Registered Builder. If any of the members meet the requirements for the above Sets, MBA will assist in the payment, guidance, and mentoring throughout the application process to ultimately attain registration. 

If any applicants are looking to become a registered builder, but require assistance regarding education, the MBA will provide the successful applicant the opportunity to complete their CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) which will provide the successful candidate with the educational requirements to become a Registered Builder. 

*Educational Requirements will encompass the completion of 27 Units of Competency.

Application Details:
Eligibility You must be:
• An Australian citizen or permanent resident currently living in Australia.
• Aged 18 years or over. 
• Female identifying. 
• Able to demonstrate reasonable participation in the construction industry. 

Submission You must submit the following to support your application:
• Application form with Declaration Section signed.
• A letter or a video detailing:
• What inspires or motivates you to become a registered builder? 
• How will becoming a registered builder impact your future? 
• Discuss your career journey in the industry, detailing any challenges you have faced. 
• NAWIC aims to foster 25% female participation in the construction industry by 2025. In your own words, why do you think encouraging more women to work in construction is important for the future of the industry in Australia. 
• Current CV; maximum 2 x A4 pages
• Be available for a panel interview on Wednesday evening 15 October 2023.

Scholarship Depending on the number of requirements met under the 5 different sets you can apply under to become a Registered Builder; the successful scholarship recipient will receive: 

•  All payments required to become a registered builder, guidance and mentoring throughout the application process to assist in gaining the registration; or
• A scholarship for MBA WA’s CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) and assistance to complete their builder’s registration, valued up to $12,000.

In addition to the above, the successful applicant will also receive:
• A ticket to the NAWIC Awards Lunch at Crown Perth on the 3 November 2023. 
• Mentoring from MBA WA throughout the builder’s registration process. 

Judging The panel will include: 
• Charlotte Sutton – State Training & Workforce Development Manager for MBA
• Aly Harper – MBA Builder’s Scholarship winner 2022
• Jazzmin Stevenson – NAWIC WA Tradeswoman of the Year Award 2022

Process The MBA Scholarship selection process will be as follows: 

1. The judging panel will review the submissions against the criteria outlined above. The judges will select a maximum of three finalists to be interviewed.
2. Once selected for an interview, the finalists will meet with the selection panel to discuss their application on Wednesday evening the 18th of October 2023.
3. The winner of the scholarship will be notified via phone and email by Friday the 27th of October 2023
4. The award announced during the Awards Lunch on Friday the 3rd of November 2023, as well as social media channels
