Natalie Galea is a research associate and PhD candidate completing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the Faculty of Built Environment. She was the lead researcher on an ARC Industry Linkage project focused on gender equity and diversity in the Australian construction sector. Prior to her PhD, Natalie worked for almost two decades in construction. With a degree in Building Construction Management, she has worked in Australia and internationally delivering a range of construction projects - building, defence, civil and mining infrastructure – for contractors and property developers. Prior to her career in construction, Natalie represented Australia in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. She was also the section manager of the Australian Olympic Judo team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In 2016, Natalie was the NAWIC IWD Scholarship holder where she produced a research report titled Shifting the gender imbalance in construction: building industry specific responses. The report focuses on the taken-for-granted practices operating within construction that had gendered effects on women and men’s careers and seeks to identify sector specific responses to these issues.
