NAWIC ACT | Public Speaking Workshop

Do you find yourself dreading public speaking but it’s an important part of your role or is the difference between your career standing still or moving ahead?

      §  Imagine being able to deliver a confident speech or message to educate and inspire your team and organisation to embrace a new opportunities or strive to achieve their goals. 

   §  Wouldn’t it be great to have the skills and self-belief to speak confidently at occasion…a toolbox talk, a job interview, or your colleague’s farewell or accepting an award?

Public speaking is not about following a “textbook” technique or adopting someone else’s gestures, body language or speaking effects. You already know how to present your ideas in a naturally effective, relaxed way. You do it with friends and family all the time. Yet many of us feel nervous and dread when we’re the centre of attention or communicating to large groups. Presenting with confidence is a powerful and important life skill that can be learned, and with practice, honed to deliver success in your current role and throughout your career.


In this fun and interactive series of 2 x 3.5 hour workshops tailored specifically for NAWIC
you will….. 

§  Gain a greater understanding of how to plan, prepare and deliver your presentations with skill and ease

§  Learn techniques to give structure to your presentations so they connect with and captivate audiences

§  Learn to prepare “easy to follow” speaking notes and visual material to make maximum impact

§  Overcome any “imposter syndrome” and develop competency to have difficult conversations, answer tricky questions and manage hostile audiences

§  Take away tips and strategies for conveying professional confidence, authenticity and presence in different environments

§  Skills for delivering messages, and relevant stories and thank you speeches with positive energy, in a trusted style that builds confidence and credibility for your professional brand

§  Practice empowered body language and voice control, practice and improve impact through appearance, stance, voice development and variety.

§  Strategies to manage nerves and their interference in performing at your best. Includes mindful breathing and reframing thoughts exercises to quieten your inner critic so you can fully connect with audiences and demonstrate your expertise to full potential

§  Develop and deliver a brief presentation of your own to the group (instructions will be provided in Session 1)

Workshop 2 'Presenting and Performing'

Wednesday November 20, 2019 • 9:00am - 12:30PM

§  A combination of practical exercises application and discussion in pairs, small groups and the larger group

§  Presented by Katrina Howard an experienced, qualified facilitator and executive coach (including 5 years coaching TEDxCanberra presenters).

§  Guided instructions on presenting and performing techniques, mindfulness and breathing practices to manage nerves and anxiety

§  Session notes with relevant exercises, further information, resources and links.
