Helen has a wealth of experience in the industry from working in remote Western Australia in the mining boom of the 1980's to her current role as a senior project manager with GHD in Canberra. 

With a sound knowledge and understanding of the foundations of project management Helen can sussessful manage projects from diverse areas of construction, including commercial office buildings, residential communties, infrastructure and construction.

Helen is a strong communicator who is particluarily skilled at coordinating clients, user groups, stakeholders, project teams, consultants and contractors to ensure the project delivery is a positive and productive expereince.

Helen has a keen focus on supporting and mentoring young women in non-traditional roles and encouraging all women to recognise the significance of their contribution to the industry.

Jen is an Interior Designer and has been working in the construction industry for the past 13 years. Her main focus has been on the residential market concentrating on new homes and renovations. She has also taught interior design at the Canberra Institute of Technology.  Jen is the Sales Manager for Shaw Living and is currently based at the new development of Crace and then soon, the new development of Googong.

Jen enjoys her involvement with the NAWIC Chapter Council and considers it to be an important networking association for women in the construction industry.



ANNA BACON

Current position - Finance Manager for the ACT Region of Lend Lease Project Management and Construction.

Anna commenced her career with Lend Lease in the ACT office of Civil & Civic back in 1981.  In the ensuing 30 years or so she has held many positions in the finance, accounting, and business analysis fields both in Australia and the US.

Gesa has 20 years of professional experience in the building and construction industry in Australia and Germany.

She has gained expertise through working across a range of fields including supporting and leading teams, land and infrastructure development, architecture and urban planning, business and policy advice, government and stakeholder engagement, industry training, research and tertiary education.

Gesa is well known in the industry and respected for her cross disciplinary expertise. Her focus  is on development and strategic direction of the Australian Building and Construction Industry.

In her current role as Assistant Professor in the School of Management at the University of Canberra, Gesa is lecturing in Building and Construction Management and Sustainability



SHANNON BATTISSON


Secretary

Shannon is an experienced Registered Architect.  Shannon’s passion lay in designing engaging and inspiring educational spaces for children and adults alike.

Shannon joined NAWIC in 2011 and quickly became inspired by the unique support and networking opportunities that it presents its members.  Becoming Joint Secretary in late 2011 has allowed Shannon to take on a more active role in the organisation.  She is a fervent supporter of her industry, and enjoys the chance to encourage other women to enjoy it as she does.



LISA DART

Lisa has held many roles in the construction industry in both the public and private sectors and has found a real passion for the built environment.  She loves the diversity of working in construction, the daily challenges, being on site and the mate-ships that have developed. There are so many different facets to the industry and Lisa believes that there is a real and significant place for women in construction. Lisa is a true advocate of women in the construction industry promoting the skills and qualities that cannot be learnt by formal training but are natural attributes that women have and are so required in this changing industry.  Lisa is the Company System Manager for Project Coordination (Australia) Pty Ltd and the Chair of the ACT Construction Industry Safety Reference Group.


DR NICOLE STENLAKE


Council Member

Nicole is Director of Fyshwick Trade Skills Centre at Canberra Institute of Technology which encompasses plumbing, electrical, refrigeration and air-conditioning, plant operations, metals and automotive trades.

Nicole has a BSc and PhD in Physics from St. Andrews University in Scotland and has worked at CIT since 1992, teaching Physics and Forensic Science before taking up management roles in the trades sector.  She initiated the annual Girls Only Try-a-Trade event at CIT’s Fyshwick campus in which more than 200 girls and women can ‘give a trade a go’ in a fun and supportive atmosphere.


Nicole enjoys networking opportunities.


DEBBIE MAZLIN

Council Member

Debbie Mazlin is managing director of a Registered Training Organisation, specialising in workforce professionalisation programs based on nationally recognised qualifications and partnering with industry to achieve mutual goals.

For the Australian Institute of Project Management, Debbie is National Chair of Women in Project Management, a member of the National Assessor Panel and Standards Review Panel, and an ACT Chapter Councillor for NAWIC. She is a Certified Practicing Project Director and also conducts certification assessments for AIPM. Debbie proudly claims the title of Baby Boomer, and at the mature end of her career, is focused on mentoring the next generation professional women to not only achieve their dreams, but excel beyond expectations.
