WA Chapter Launch NightOn September 11th 2009 about 90 people braved the spring showers to attend the launch of the new WA Chapter of NAWIC. The event was held at the Platform Bar and Restaurant in the Woodside Building and whilst unwinding on Friday evening, the guests were welcomed by the WA Chapter President Monika Kompara, enlightened to the past, present and future of NAWIC by National President Sandra Steele and National Vice President Katherine Lang and treated to the insights and vision for Perth of the special guest speaker The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Perth Lisa Scaffidi. The guests were presented with the WA Chapter's plans for site visits, functions and regular monthly "beat the GFC" catch-ups and invited to get involved in a committee to help build NAWIC in WA. NAWIC WA would like to say a very big thanks to their sponsors for the night: Thinc Projects, CDI, Bristile, ITC Group and Modus Design. Finally, to all those who attended, your presence was muchly appreciated and we hope to see you at many more successful NAWIC events in the future!

WA Chapter Information NightIt has finally arrived! The NAWIC WA Chapter had its very first event, an information night, on Tuesday the 28th of July 2009. The evening took place in the Kings Street Arts Centre, Organised by the WA Chapter President, Monika Kompara and her newly appointed committee of Kristie Spagnolo, Jo Phillips and Kerryn Briody, the night successfully introduced NAWIC to members of the WA Construction community, answered many questions and was met with great enthusiasm. In response to the business card door prize draw, we had a first prize winner of a 1 year NAWIC membership and that was awarded to Anya Guthrie from Davis Langdon. See below for the photos captured of the evening and stay tuned for the official WA Chapter launch party on the 11th of September 2009 (make sure you save the date and drop Monika an email if you would like more information and other regular events including an October walkthrough of a prominent Perth development site

November Project PathwaysThe WA chapter of NAWIC held its 'Project Pathways' for November at 43 Below in the city with more than twenty members attending. The discussion among the group was lively and members were clearly networking and making connections. Many members commented on their excitement over simply having the opportunity to speak to other women in the industry about issues they are facing and to seek advice. The WA Committee called for nominations for the Events Committee chair and members. A number of women put themselves forward and they will join the committee at its next meeting to look at an annual calendar of events. The proposal is to have a Project Pathways networking function one month alternated with an event featuring a speaker on a topic such as the impact of the next WA boom on construction in the state or the impact of the Sustainability move on careers and training in construction. The committee felt that the alternating programme would combine the essential time members want to meet informally with a series of informative sessions that would be beneficial to their professional development.
As the Christmas season is fast approaching, the Committee is trying hard to engage its corporate members in providing a venue and offering assistance for a function. This will be an informal event to bring members together to wish each other the best for the holidays after an eventful year.
