About the Program

We’re excited to launch the NAWIC SA Mentoring Programme. It’s a new initiative offered to current NAWIC members and applications are now open.

The Program

We’ve created a mentoring programme to provide professional women in construction with an expanded network and experienced industry expert from whom they may gain advice and discuss industry or work related issues.
 
Apply as a Mentor or Mentee

The Mentoring Program is a free service open to all current members of NAWIC (SA) of any age, experience or time spent in the construction industry. 

As a Mentee, you will be looking to:

  • Increase your knowledge and expand your skills base
  • Demonstrate your ability and desire to learn new skills
  • Accept responsibility for your own development, decisions and actions
  • Benefit from external guidance in your professional development
  • Take on new challenges and carry out tasks and projects 

And you will commit to:

  • Being available and open to feedback
  • Being proactive in the Mentor - Mentee relationship
  • Accepting advice and providing your mentor with feedback
  • Demonstrating your commitment to the relationship

As a Mentor, you will:

  • Be either male or female
  • Offer a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the construction industry (although we do accept applications from mentors with less experience)
  • Have good interpersonal skills including good listening and patience
  • Help your mentee find solutions
  • Be committed to the principles and process of mentoring

And you will be looking to:

  • Share experiences, business skills and expertise to benefit others
  • Facilitate a mentee’s professional growth and guide their career development
  • Act as a sounding board, providing support, advice and encouragement
  • Use your expertise and networks to assist others face and resolve challenges

What happens next?

  • NAWIC will match Mentors and Mentees based on age, experience and goals over profession. This ensures the focus of each relationship remains focused upon personal and professional development more than technical knowledge. 
  • Once mentors are introduced at the Program Launch, it is up to each partnership to make contact and set relationship guidelines with the help of an information pack provided by NAWIC. 

How long will the mentor – mentee relationship last?

  • Generally a mentoring partnership will involve a minimum of 4 face-to-face meetings over a 9-12 month period. 
  • In addition to this the program is supplemented with events throughout the year where the cohort of participants can expand their networks, learn from one another and benefit from facilitated workshops.

Closing Date


The closing date for registration from both Mentors and Mentees is Friday 10 June, 2016.
